Still playing the flute in the 21st century?
Today's modern technology is able to electronically simulate woodwind instruments (including the flute) almost as accurately as the real thing themselves. Note the use of the word "almost" here. Anyone who had heard the side-by-side playing of an authentic flute and the artificial reproduction of the flute acoustics from keyboard synthesizers, organs or clavinovas, will be able to attest to the flexibility of control and richness of the sound of the former. Solo performances of fast numbers will effectively demonstrate this point. Foundamentally, the real thing provides vastly superior means of expressions to relate to listeners.

Ever heard of James Galway?
This Irish guy supposely caused the younger generations to dumped electric guitars in favour of flutes! The Man with the Golden Flute can literally make the flute sing. Check out a few of his highly recomended CD titles and songs here.
